Dream

Dream
Dream is really mysterious. And I am such a person who likes dreaming very much that sometimes I even create a series of scenes in my mind before I fall asleep, and then start my adventurous dreaming stories. Sometimes I can meet several big serpents and fight with them; sometimes I can be a king of a country and with my wealth I can eat delicious food every day without working; for other times I may start my journey with a treasure map I accidently found. However, one of the most important things about dreams is that sometimes I even can foretell my next day’s examination questions. But unfortunately, every time when I tried my best to recall the questions asked in my test papers after I woke up I could remember nothing and it’s really a pity.
When people dream, they are really in another world, a world with more exciting adventures. But one question is that why people can or should dream. If you say that they are born with the ability, then how about if they are born without?
If people are born without dreams, I don’t think they will feel more uncomfortable. On the contrary, they may feel more comfortable because of one widely believed theory that dreaming makes people more tired and harms people’s health. But when people are born without dreams I think they must be very different from today’s people. I can hardly describe what I would be like if I were born without dreams but still can think. Then what would I be like? I can’t help asking.
And now it’s time for me to make a big decision that tonight I shall have an early sleep to dream a dream in which I will be born without dreams. Ha-ha!

My opinion on fengshui

On Monday, we discussed much about the phenomenon ‘fengshui’, which was originated from ancient China and now has evolved into a fad throughout the whole world. However, in fact, Fengshui has always been a controversial issue in the society. Some people regard it as the superstition and think it should be abolished and erosion completely as time goes by.  While some are against this. Personally, although I do not believe the idea of fengshui, I do not think it is appropriate to repudiate the ancient tradition.
Fengshui, as an important theory of the architecture, has a profound influence on the Chinese culture. It contains life philosophy, the traditional aesthetics and many other aspects. In fengshui theory, it pays attention to the nature harmonious. It aims to explore the nature, utilize the natural and alter the nature. It chooses or establishes the best environment that fits the health and demand of human. Ultimately, it will achieve the harmony between man and nature.
As far as I am concerned, with a history of more than 5000 years, its existence and evolve must have its own reason. It is an important part of Chinese culture. It is a valuable heritage that our ancestor left us. Undergoing 5000 years of history, fengshui definitely has its dross and superstition, which is supposed to be discarded. But it has its positive parts as well. That is to say, it is not all about superstitious; it has its essence, which should be widely spread. Additionally, we are supposed to strengthen the protection to the Chinese traditional culture. It is not advisable to regard fengshui to ‘pseudoscience’ and ‘superstition’ in a one-sided way. We should treat it in an objective attitude.
In conclusion, whether we believe it or not, we should respect it even if it is unacceptable to us. And we should be able to distinguish which are the correct parts that should be included in the scientific research, which are the folk customs like the art, culture and psychology and also which are the negative parts. Only in this way can make the Chinese culture move into correct track in a rapid speed and exert its cultural vitality under the new social conditions.

Naruto And His Belief

These days, I have been watching the Japanese cartoon which was adopted from the comic, Naruto. This cartoon described the life of the ninjas and the precious relationships between them. I started to watch the cartoon when I was still in junior high school. At that time, one of my friends love this cartoon very much, so she always talked to me about the cartoon and tried her best to persuade me to watch it. In order not to let her down, I tried, and was addicted to it, too.

Although because of the College Entrance Examination, I hadn’t watch for more than one year, I was still moved by the friendship and persistence that were showed. The lead in the cartoon, Naruto, was an orphan. His parents were dead when they fought with an evil fox. When his father died, the father sealed the fox in the body of him. Therefore, all the villages hated him. However, he didn’t give up, and tried to make other people who had a painful and lonely experience cheer up. In addition, he cherished any friendship he built, no matter weather the person betrayed the village.

I think Naruto is a unique character. When we face a previous friend who has betrayed us, most of us may break up immediately, and may also worry that the person will influence our future. However, Naruto chose to try his best to prevent his friend, Sasuke, leaving the village. After he failed, he started to persuade Sasuke to come back. In contract, if it happened to us, most of us wouldn’t be so persistent that we would give up soon. And this is the reason why the cartoon moved me.

Unfortunately, the cartoon has been produced for more than ten years, but it hasn’t been finished yet. However, I’m not worried that I cannot finish the part that has been produced. I’m very confident that I will live much longer than the author, so I have enough time to watch it.

Be careful to medias

Some people may be surprised at that the advertisements are everywhere. But few people are aware that behind they are medias actually. This may because people don’t feel they as offensive as advertisements. But evennow you may not realize that how tremendously medias affect us. As the saying goes, “If you control the straits, you control the ocean. If you control the ocean, you control the land. But if you control the money, you control the world. However, if you control medias, you control everyone.” I think that this saying doesn’t exaggerate. People live in a world of medias. No matter what happens or what changes around you, you are mostly told by medias and form an opinion basing on the information you get from the media. However, there is almost no media purely state the fact without any stand. Mostly, it has been colored with the emotion of the editors before it is published. That is, what you get is somewhat distorted, not a fact strictly. Thanks to good writing of journalists or other writers, the partial thinking is hidden between the lines. It may be the most powerful mesmerist. Moreover, the media can choose what to emphasize on and what to be vague. For example, when I read the Wikipedia, I was impressed by the power struggle and the tactful trickery of Deng Xiaoping. Because Wikipedia seems to find it interesting to focus less on what Deng had achieved but seize any chance to describe something else of Deng, like some words he said in the letters, which may sounds cheap. If I don’t know something about it before, I would be more likely to conclude that Deng is a tactful politician, let alone another leader of China. Therefore, I conclude that we should be critical to the media. That’s all.

My reflections on “Math Genius”------Liu Lu

Several days ago I heard a piece of news that an undergraduate in Central South University confirmed the Ramsly Theory, which was a famous unsolved math problem and wasn’t confirmed successfully before. The undergraduate’s name is Liu Lu and his achievement made a sensation to the academic area. Rewarding for his achievement Central South University give him one million yuan and invite him to be a professor in Central South University.

I wonder how could such a young man work out an unsolved math problem, after I read the report about his experience in learning math I think he deserves it. Liu Lu is a serious about academy and buries himself in solving math problem without any bothering from outside. He learns a lot of math knowledge by himself for he is much interested in math. When he applied for university, all his majors were declared math. Although from others’ perspective math is not a good choice because it is hard for math student to find a satisfying job. However, Liu Lu insisted on his interest and chased his dream bravely. Finally, he did his best and won reputation for himself.

As far as I am concerned, Liu Lu’s success indicates that we should know where our interest is and chase it bravely. In modern society, we shouldn’t choose a major only according to whether it is easy to find a satisfying job with high salary, instead we should depend on our interest and dream. As there is a saying that there will be excellent and successful people in each industry only if you do your best. It is important for us to keep a peaceful mind nowadays. Only if we try our best to do in our interested area without caring about outside, can we get success whatever we major in. In conclusion, develop our interest and chase it bravely!

Friendship

When I was surfing the internet last night,
I suddenly saw one of my old friends wrote Shanghai and Singapore below the question: write down the cities where your best friends live. I knew it referred to me and the tears can’t stop bursting out of my eyes with joy and movement.
It is good to know even I am not there, there are still some people caring about me, thinking about me and whenever I are in trouble, I can talk with them without hesitation. Although we don’t keep in touch every day, once we are together, we can keep talking and talking like old days as if we have never been apart from each other. I feel so lucky to have such friends so that I seldom feel lonely even I am alone. I do cherish the friendship because I firmly believe it can last during our whole life and nothing can replace it even their relationship with boys, because the days we have spent together and the difficulties we overcome with each others’ help. All in all, thank you for your accompanying and hope you can have a happy life forever. Bear in mind, I will always be there for you as long as you need.
Some people may ask how we can make sure this person is the one. In my opinion, it is up to you and only you can tell. Some people you can feel he can’t be your best friend at the first sight, not because he is not a good guy, not because he is different from you, just because he doesn’t suit you. I have a profound faith that best friends are not those who you try every means to shine up to but those who we get close naturally and we can do whatever stupid that we can’t do in front of others, say whatever we feel in our heart. From all above, I hope everybody can make a life-long best friend

The Ideal Husband

The Ideal Husband
Recently I am watching a TV play series called Beijing Love story, which narrates some stories about several young people living in Beijing. Though I have been gone through it terrifically slowly due to a lot of study assignment, it always readily fascinates me in a profound manner every time I turn to the videos. The love relationships in it are not all blessed or romantic, and additionally the plots are of much interesting and original points. By virtue of this blog entry, I am going to talk about the ideal love and the ideal husband in my point of view, which may be unrealistic or might seem too daydreaming, but I personally reckon it will hardly hurt if we enjoy daydreaming when we are still young enough to conquer the right.
I have heard about this kind of statement: “Even the most blessed couple will experience fifty times when they want to divorce and one hundred times when they have the thoughts in mind of killing each other.” It’s coming from someone’s mouth on a TV shoe which was probably too exaggerated in a sense. However, I do approve of the notion that the closest couple can still have significant conflict sometimes. For this consideration, I think the ideal husband in life must be well aware of it, keeping tolerant and good-tempered whenever a trouble comes into being.
Hopefully, I think the ideal relationship between husband and wife commands both sides to treat each other as considerately as treating themselves. I hope I will encounter such a gentlemen who is willing to care for me even more than caring about himself, and naturally takes it for granted. Likely, I have read something about it that impresses me a great deal. The male leading role in one of the novels of my favorite author once said to his sister, actually terribly drunk and full of sorrow in heart: “I merely feel like looking for a woman, who will love me with no extra conditions. I know it’s stupid, but I can’t help thinking what if such a person really exists? I just want to see if there can be a woman, who is willing to do anything, for the sake of me.” Yes, maybe it’s desperately stupid, but I can’t cease the stubborn thought in mind that people of indeed love with each other will behave in this romantically stupid way.
When we are alone drown in the crowds, losing the direction where we feel like going to, it will occur to us that if only someone appears beside ourselves all of a sudden and hold our hands tightly to dispel fear in the heart; when we trudge through the tedious life without promising hope supporting us, it came out again that if only there is someone just keeping us company throughout the whole life.

Never find an excuse for yourself

Here are two little stories.

This was a story in the war between United States and Spain. To win the war, the president of United States needed to get contact with the leader of the army against Spain who was hiding in the jungle of Cuba that time. When the president felt hopeless because nobody knew the exact location of the army, someone recommended Rowen to the president and said that Rowen was the only man who could do this task. So the president met Rowen and gave him the letter to the leader. Rowen took the letter and sailed for 4 days on a small boat along until he reached the shore of Cuba. He only one person walked through the jungle in three weeks and finished the task. The main point was that when Rowen took the letter from president he didn't ask the question : 'Where is that leader ?' He just took the letter and finished this impossible task. Actually, that leader' name is Garcia and this story is well known by the world as 'A message to Garcia'.

The similar story also happened in the movie 'Saving Private Ryan' . In World War Two, the commander John got a mission to find a solider whose name was Ryan in the mess battlefield. This solider was the son of an old mother. This mother' husband was dead and she had four sons, but three of them had already died in this war, Private Ryan was the only son left. The military wanted to find the last son in order to save the last hope of this family. The same as Rowen, this commander John accepted the mission though he didn't know where the Ryan was. At last the whole saving group died including John but the successfully saved Ryan.

Rowen and commander John in these two stories all accepted the impossible mission without any excuses. They just accepted it and did it and finally succeeded. In the real life, we always try to find some excuses to be the reasons of shirking from the difficulties. Never find an excuses for yourself, face the problems directly, that's the thing we should do.

In the West Point, when the commanders ask their students a question, students only can give one of the four answers. 'Yes, sir','No, sir', 'I have no excuses' and 'I don't know.'. The commanders there only care about the result instead of the reason you haven't finished the tasks.

Superstitution

Superstition is a mysterious field in life.No one can explain or deny some of them at present. The following are some of my opinions.
This world always has something to puzzle and frighten us in ancient times. We wanted to be safe and well, so we tried to find some principles or explanations. However, sometimes the principles couldn’t be proved in a rigorous way or our ancesters simply didn’t dare to infringe them. Therefore, there exist a lot of principles or stories which seemed not convincing enough to modern people, that’s why we call them superstitions. Some of them are inhuman or primitive, so some people thought they are the dregs of the previous society thus should be abandoned. But some of the principles are so important that many cases can be the supports to its existence. For example, all regions in the world can’t be explained by science but many people believe it totally including highly-educated ones. So we can see how hard it is to prove something without scientific methods. But I tend to believe the principles are somehow have some effects on the mental world like our psychology, subconsciousness and our soul if it exists.
It's just too many coincidences that we are easy to believe those principles. To some extent, I suppose some of the principles are still in unknown fields, which may be acceptable after investigation and proof. Today we learned something about Chinese feng shui, which can determine person’s success by affecting his mood. Take the feng shui for example. In the past, feng shui is usually thought as a superstition, but now it is popular in western world, because at least it taught people how to create a pleasant environment to have a good life. Psychology can have large energy that we usually neglect. There is an inspirational book called THE MASTER KEY SYSTEM. This book promoted the success of Bill Gates because he stopped schooling after reading this book. The book demand you to change your inner world and it focuses on the so-called fulfilling prophecy. Some people thought it too idealistic. But it’s a persuasive book with good results. Our brain is still unknown to us human in many areas. Once it is exploited, it will be powerful.
However, some people don't believe them at all. They think it's to tired to consider about these or those rules in life. They think if you don't believe those rules, they will never affect you. Actually, they can still live a good life. They are probably right, but I can't tell because most people started to believe one rule after it came to them.
Superstition shows human's reverence for our universe, and somehow reflect the infinite wisdom of humans. It's valuable as a heritage of civilization and worth studying. I believe people may find all the mistery of the superstitions one day. But we should not let it affect our thinking too much at any time. After all, it is science that we should believe in.

god eat god

"God eat god."--This is a slogan in the post of NUS art festival, which you can see everywhere in the campus. But actually this blog has nothing to do with the art festival. It is just my idea of this sentence--"God eat god."
Several weeks ago,I watched the movie called"Pirates of Silicon Valley"(硅谷传奇).It talked about the story of Steve Jobs and Bill Gates. In this movie Bill is a treacherous man.He stole the idea of Jobs and finally became the great winner in the PC market. However,Jobs was also not a good guy.He made his workers to work day and night. He always lost his temper to anyone he did not like, also to his employees. Finally his friend dropped him and he was driven out by his own company.
Yesterday(last Sunday),I watched the movie<the social network>which is about Mark Zuckerberg, the man who established the Facebook.Just like the name of the novel from which the film was adapted from--The Accidental Billionaires: The Founding of Facebook, a Tale of Sex, Money, Genius and Betrayal. From the movie,I can see many things related to sex, money and betrayal.(Although Mark was very unhappy with this movie because he thought that many things are artificial.)Mark ,a genius, achieved success through the way of stealing, cheating and betraying, just like what Bill had done.He even betrayed his best friend who had supported him all the way.I cannot even believe it,but it is true.
We always admire those successful man in this competitive sociaty, just like Jobs, Bill, Mark and someone else.We are jealous because they are smart, brilliant, and finally they all become wealthy and change the whole world. But we seldom think about what they really have done to achieve success. For success, they can do anything, sacrifice anything, even friendship and courtship. They value their reputation but they do something ugly behind the public.
So, now let's talk about the slogan.Nowadays, our world is just like a world of DOG.In the world, dog eats dog and finally there will be only a few dogs which can survive. And then, they put on an expensive suit, make themselves up and finally they become GOD who is admired by everyone.
So,GOD may be just a DOG.

our unforgettable day in east coast park

Last Thursday, our group had a journey in east coast park which I thought was the most memorable reminiscene in my mind after coming to Singapore. The only thing I felt was that I love our group 3.
There were many things that impressed me a lot. The first thing was that we girls, pushed almost all the boys into the sea. I did think it was hard to imagine for I think it could only happen in the film such as the girl we chased together in the past. When watching that movies, I was attracted by the scene that they played in the sea. But that day, we all had that kind of experience, which made us really exciting.
The next thing that I cannot forget was that we rode double bikes in the rain. Through that experience, first I saw my disadvantage, which is always pausing and pondering. I hate that kind of me for it makes me hard to make a decision as quickly as possible. However, I am sure that I will overcome that difficult in the future. I will try my best. And I had experienced riding in the rain. This was the second time. I enjoyed that kind of feeling which made you relax yourself although at the same time it made you all wet. It made me recall the time in Xi'an,when four of us rode bikes for 4 hours in the rain. It released your soul. You would never feel being shackled by others.
The third thing that I will keep in my mind was sitting in a circle beside the sea in the dark night. I did think that activity made our group more unite. We played games together. We peaked the atmosphere which made all of us excited. With a song called ten years,we ended our trip. When coming back home, I betted with Benjing that our route is shorter than the way she decided to choose. As a result, after leaving the MRT, 5 of our gilrs including me , rushed to the next line without seeing others' disdainful sight. And we were really happy when finding that we were the first to arrive at the lodge.
There were many things that deserved to be an aftertaste. What I want to say the most is that, this was the real youth. We should just be like this! Do what we want, no matter it was raining heavily or not, no matter the behaviour was stupid or not, but that was the real ourselves. It also made me recall a lot of things which brought me felicity. These are all beautiful memories, which you will never want to forget.Although we will not be together with each others, we have the corporate experience and that's enough. We are friends no matter where we go.
Hope all of us will keep this memory in minds and treasure it. And wish everyone a nice future~

A Journey Through Time With a Little Boy in Your Heart

A Journey Through Time With a Little Boy in Your Heart

Among several books I read last year, the personal favorite of mine is a Chinese book named Orange, the second collection of the writer’s proses, following the first one A Journey Through Time With Anthony. The author of the two books is an distinguished young writer with kind of unusual writing habits. That is, He seldom puts punctuations as demarcations of sentences. It doesn’t cause much trouble towards comprehension of works, since Chinese characters tremendously differ from letters and words used in English; one of the differences is that there is no space between characters in one sentence, so it won’t lead to any misunderstanding to put a single space instead of punctuations to define two separate sentences. Thus, Anthony, the writer mentioned previously, do foster the habit of writing in this way.
Anthony is a Chinese young writer studying in Australia now, who majors in Hotel Management and Finance, and simultaneously works as a cook in restaurants for part-time job. He is not knowledgeable at all, and thus his proses are none of seriousness or reasoning. However, the work done by him truly has inconceivable power of involving the readers into his ordinary but interesting life. Since he is not willing to let any so-called regulations block his flowing of writing and thinking, which can be apparently concluded from his no punctuation habit, the fluent and unique narrations always capture my heart in a profound way.
He once said a sentence that has left a startling impression on me. That is” I will live with a little boy in my heart even if I am getting old.” With a little boy staying and playing hardly in your heart, you will always regain the treasurable courage belonging to an indomitable child when encountering some kind of thorniness; with a little boy sleeping sound in your heart, any vicious gossip will not be able to interfere with your sincerity; with a little boy singing in your heart, all the blessed beauties will brim your heart; with a little boy living in your deep heart, you will never lose the capability to love, as well as the fearlessness of devoting your entire soul to your cherished and solid love.
Some friend of mine said that he would like to turn back to the childhood to be an ignorant young boy forever. Surely he could. Perhaps he has already been.

Diary: A Decision

Today I came to NUS to find a place to practice what I learned last Sunday, since I took a Guzheng class in CC. If I can’t find a Guzheng and can’t practice playing, then I’ll nearly forget what I learned after a week and can’t perform well in next class. Then the money and time is wasted.
After asking librarians about where are many musical instruments, I took the B bus to a place near YIH and Music Conservatory. I heard there was a Chinese Orchestra in YIH. After searching and climbing to the 7th floor, listening to a debate, communicating with two seniors from USP, the whole morning has passed and I still can’t find the place. I began to ask myself:” Do I really want to continue learning Guzheng or perform on the stage? Or it’s just because I don’t want to waste a so-called specialty? As the taking part to the clubs won’t do any help to the CCA, is it important to enter the Chinese Orchestra?” If I dropped the class now, because I hadn’t pay for the class, I would have more time on the weekend to do other things. I wouldn’t have to find a place to practice the boring etude which is still unfamiliar to me now. And I needn’t get up early tomorrow morning.
Actually a senior just now had asked others for me and told me that the Chinese Orchestra had an activity at 6.00 p.m. Because I can’t find the place, I wanted to go back to my hostel and thought about it, and maybe I’ll come here in the evening.(I visited the Music Conservatory later, and I was told that there are only western music. Never mind, by the way, the building was so marvelous!)
Finally I chose to go to the NUS this afternoon, at least to see what the club was like. I prepared three questions: 1.What kind of level of the member will they accept? 2.Will the activities take much time? 3.Is it OK if I practice playing Guzheng out of the activity time in their place?
This evening, I met a passer-by who was the member of the Chinese Orchestra, so eventually I found the place. The activity ended at 9:30.After staying there for 2 more hours, I decided to join the club. Here are my reasons: 1.I like to play Guzheng in fact. I believe after a difficult time, I can enjoy playing it again.Studying Guzheng is the right thing in my bridging course, even in my life.2.I can practice playing what I learned in the Chinese Orchestra club and improve the skills in the club by learning from others. 3.There will be many performing opportunities. The experience on the stage is very good for my development of character. 4.The atmosphere in the club is cozy and happy, and I like being a member of the club. 5.It only has a two-hour activity in a week, so it won't take much time.
So that's my decision of one day. The experience in NUS was much more exciting than in the dormitory.I found I still have to improve my English speaking. Maybe I need to face the Singapore and NUS more, rather than hanging around the hostel.

My views towards Chinese's pursuing luxuries

This Wednesday I had my oral presentation in which I constructed cultural differences between China and western countries basing on the way how people choose brands and goods. I believe that westerners prefer luxury brands while most Chinese will choose china’s time- honored brands when considering their good reputations. However, no one can deny that more and more Chinese are paying their attention to luxury brands like LV or Chanel. Towards this phenomenon, I want share with you some of my personal views. In fact, I do think it’s alright that people pursue luxuries, because to some extent, luxury brands can guarantee good qualities. If you have enough money, why don’t you just enjoy your life? However, facts are that some young people who even can not earn enough money for life also want to follow the trend which I think is irrational. They blindly follow and unrealistically compare with others regarding wearing and using luxuries a way to show good taste. As for as I am concerned, possessing luxuries should always be a choice to satisfy life for those who can afford it but not a way to show wealth and status. To sum up, we should always remain sane instead of being crazy about luxuries.

The shyness is only worth a bottle of soft drink

There was a boy who suffered extreme shyness. In his 9 when he transferred to a new school, he refused to speak to his classmates for half of the semester. And even after he had been chatted with his friends, he would reflect with what he should say or do the next time. Moreover, whenever he needed to call someone else, he would take more than 10minutes to speculate every case that might happen before dialing the number. Actually, that boy was me. After ten year I am hardly under the condition of considerable agitation. Though I am still not a gregarious person, I have had the courage to attend a drama which displayed in front of 1600 people.

In reality, my improvement was due to my mother’s endeavor. Among all of her efforts, there is one therapy which I called watch program had the most salient effect. Watch program, like its literal meaning, has to do with time. Although I called it a program, the procedure is very simple. Just to ask a stranger what time is it. It may sound odd to you. What’s the big deal of asking such an easy question? But to a child who dared not to speak to his classmate, talking to a stranger initially can be defined as a feat of great daring. I hadn’t thought through how she had come out this method. Maybe her previous goal was merely getting to know what time it was. Gradually she thought this may rid me of fear, so it became practice whenever I went out with her.

Of course the first time is tough; the fear of being embarrassed paralyzed me. There are so many people on the bus. Who should I ask? What should I ask first? And what if he or she did not bring his or her watch? Would I bother him or her? The uncertainty of what would happen and the predisposition of thinking the bad side had occupied my mind. Nevertheless, finally I accomplished the task. Because my mother promised that she would buy me a bottle of soft drink if I ask the question. The reason may sound ridiculous and you might think that I am a person that easy to be bribe.

Sometimes I found myself irrational. So, I always remind myself that the fear is unreasonable for shyness is only worth a bottle of soft drink. Then my discomfort would soon subside.

REFECTIONS ON EDUCATION

I want to share some of my reflections on the education.

Some days ago, I went to a GIVE program which was meant to train us how to be a good teacher. When the trainer communicated with us, he told us something about Singapore education nowadays. I was astonished when he said that children has to be classified after their examinations for secondary school, however, when I looked back, I found in china this is also very severe and normal. And this rule and common sense of the social are so cruel; it pushed everyone to improve their grades frantically. Then, I thought of something I read from a book written by Li Kaifu, in that book, he hold the opinion that the only judging standard for the most society. But there is supposed to be many different and open-minded standards which are for people to develop to different fields. I would like to introduce one of my genius friends in my secondary school; she is very brilliant and talented in arts. What’s more, she just insists her own ideas and has her principles. To be honest, she never does any of the homework and is able to stick to one question for a day. Though she didn’t get great results in exams, she sometimes is able to solve some problems which can’t be solved by even the teacher for several years. She is amazing, right? And now she is major in architecture, sometimes she will send me some pictures of her masterpiece, I have to admit, those pictures are fantastic. It was really a hard time for her to go through the high school, when we were growing up in the box of the society, she just chose a narrow path to go. I admire her a lot and I truly hope the society can offer a more open atmosphere for such intelligent people. Maybe the education system really needs some revolutions. I know it is unviable to say these, because everyone knows that there are something wrong in our education, but nobody can put forward some practical suggestions, so as the proverb saying, since we can’t change the world we live, just change ourselves. I didn’t mean to change to suit the society, instead, ask your heart, and then choose the way you truly want to go, and then, insist at the expense of anything.

Trouble is a friend

Today I have listened a song named trouble is a friend, which makes me think deeply. Difficulty does not have fixed standard, if you regard it as a hurdle, sooner or later you will move beyond this line; If you regard it as a spring, your strength will make it lose flexibility gradually; If you regard it as a stumbling block, after you moving it, a broad sunshine avenue will present before you immediately; If you think it is a piece of cake for you, you will certainly have the confidence and ability to eat it up.
Of course, if you think the difficulty is totally difficult, one out of ten times you will be defeated by it. Besides, there are many difficulties in this world , but only thing we have to fear is fear itself
. In fact, as long as our hearts sees difficulties as nothing, we will not only avoid encountering many difficulties, but also have enough strength and courage to overcome difficulties. So, do not afraid any difficulties even you are really in trouble, because trouble is a friend!

Everyone has only twenty-four hours a day, someone could use least time to do many things while some others are always in a hurry without doing much work. Therefore, how to arrange our time properly is extremely important in our daily lives.
Suppose there happens a sensational news in a rural area, and every reporter wants to get the news at the first time, but only a reporter get the news firstly. As for his successful reason, he called his driver to occupy the only telephone firstly when others are busy with writing news, so when he finish his report he deliver it to the driver who are waiting on the phone and send the news to his company quickly. In this way he save the time waiting for telephone so he get success. From this story I learn that we need to know how to arrange our time.
Firstly, we need to set a time table for ourselves every week for according to the schedule we won’t waste time but use our time properly.  Next, we should know what time is our most efficient time, in others words, we need to be head –clever at that time. It will help us do more work in the meantime. Moreover, we can make good use of short time to do something instead of let it fly. For example, when we are waiting for a bus or subway, we could read some books in our mobile phone.
To conclusion, only we know how to use time more efficiently, we will get more free time to do what we want to do.

The 90s in China

The 90s in China

With time going by, the world will gradually be leaded by the 90s. So, they are now the focus of the attention of the world. They are criticized as laziness ,violence and so on. However, in my opinion, I think the 90s in China have a lot of advantages. They are energetic, creative and fool of love.

To begin with, they are very energetic. They can stay up late to finish the work their bosses or teachers assigned. They are willing to spend several days doing what they want to do even if it needs a lot of energy. For example, they can play basketball every night for several hours the whole week; They will spend the whole night just to finish a tough mathematics problem.

Also, they are very creative. With the development of technology, the world needs a lot of new products which can meet the demand of all kinds of people. So, the situation affects the mind of the 90s deeply. When they are young, they are texted to think about the situation. In addition, the mind of their parents are very advanced, they know that creativity is one of the important personalities their children should be equipped with, as a result, they make a lot efforts to let their children be creative.

what's more, the 90s are full of love, they love to raise pets and take good care of them. They will cry when seeing the hurt animals. When it comes to the relationship with their friends, they will not allow anything to damage their friendship easily.

in brief, i think, the 90s have a lot of advantages that can let our world be much better in the future.

Tiger moms--tough parenting

With the popularity of the book,Battle Hymn of the Tiger Mother,Amy Chua is now famous for her tough parenting style, which has sparked a heated discussion.
To begin with, let's take a quick look at Chua's examples cited in the book.Amy Chua,Yale law professor and self-descried "tiger mother", would forced her 7-year-old daughter to practice a piece of piano music for hours without breaks, the bathroom and even water! What's more,it was Chua who calls her older daughter "garbage" after the girl was not well-behaved.Chua also declared ten rules for her daughters, including that they must be the first in the subjects except for physical education and drama and they mustn't choose their without Chua's permission, etc.Although it sounds scaring, she is receiving success now:her older daughter has already been admitted by Yale and Harvard at the same time.So it arouse our debate:do we really need tough parenting to succeed?
Some people, who think this kind of direct parental guidance can help the children grow up without wrong choices and ensuing wasted time, are strongly in favour of this method. These people are almost successful themselves and wish that their children could follow their path in the future.Actually, they think they can replace their children to make decisions for them with the so called life experience. However,a large amount of people disapprove of the method, stating that in this way children may not develop their nature by themselves and even lose the happiness of childhood.
From my point of view, whether tiger moms' tough parenting is practical or not depends on the character of the child. When it comes to those obedient children, this method can exert positive impact on them and help them explore their potential talents;in other words, this kind of parenting can able those children who obey and conduct it make great progress. On the other hand, this approach may pose adverse influece on disobedient children. If this kind of children is growing up under the tough parenting environment, they may even have obstacles or distorion in their mental health. So,whether the method is suitable or not depends on the children's characters.
Well, my friends, what kind of parent will you be??

Will you sacrifice your life for love?

----问世间情为何物,直教人生死相许
In the oral presentation, someone said that she was willing to sacrifice her life for love as the saying goes, “Ask what on earth love is, that makes lovers vow to stick together in life and death.” However, personally, I don’t dare to make such a promise at present.
In my opinion, everyone should be afraid of death because only when we are scared of death can we know the true meaning of life and cherish it. It is ridiculous to be indifferent to losing something we cherish much. Besides, I believe that from the time when you are born, your life is not only belonged to yourself, to some extent, but also belonged to the people who love you deeply, like your parents.Everyone is born with responsibilities, including the responsibility to fulfill the ultimate promise of cherishing your life and loving your being. Have you thought about what would happen to your parents if you die? Are you so ruthless to see your parents live in grief in the rest of their lives? Even if you are to save another life, have you decided to exchange the happiness of your parents for the fortune of another family? Whether you are responsible to your parents who love your deeply and bring you up toilsomely. Don’t take it too easy! You don’t have the right to sacrifice your parents’ happiness. Be the most cautious, please!
In addition, you may regard me as a coward, but I think that, to be a true brave man is not to
be fearless to death, but willing to sacrifice one’s life when the thing worths it even though this man is afraid of death very much.

 Love is Not Blind

 Love is Not Blind
Every girl dreams of a prince who will bring her to a dramatically romantic palace and fancinate her with all kinds of surprises every day. However, what if there is a boy standing behind you all the time when you suffer frustration without expressing his love through words? What if you cannot meet a handsome prince but a general boy who are willing to keep your company no matter whether you are young or getting old?

There is a girl called Huang Xiaoxian, who has just broken up with her disloyal boyfriend, struggling aganst a feel of depression;quite close to her there is a boy whose nickname was Wang Xiaojian(created by Xiaoxian actually),who doesn’t say a word to comfort her feeling but simply supports and probably loves her in an unnoticeable way. It’s a story of a Chinese film Love is Not Blind(失恋33),which makes an attempt to display a kind of relationship right between boyfriend and ordinary friend.
The film is an adaptation from a novel of the same name.As a matter of fact, the story is initially come into public’s sight on the Chinese website Douban.com,posted by a young girl called Bao Jingjing. It became popular immediately, and a good many netizens on Douban website chased after the lovely story and encourage the girl to continue finishing it.Then a moving novel came into being followed by the film mentioned above.
As a work of adaptation, the film is different from the original story for some parts. For instance, the ending of the film exposes an indication that Xiaojian is in love with Xiaoxian and is willing to care for her forever;nevertheless,in the novel, eventually Xiaoxian remains to be a considerate and close friend but maybe not a boyfriend in reality.Personally, though the novel’s ending shows an admirable relationship between the boy and the girl,I would like to trust the ending in the film rather than to drown myself in the sweet dream.
Having such a close friend of the opposite sex is truly desirable, but it’s more dramatical than being fantastic.I prefer to admit that Xiaojian devotes such a great deal to Xiaoxian simply because he loves her. However,I do believe that close friendship is the essential foundation of sweet affection,as Ms Khoo said this Wednesday Morning. Thus, hope every girl has a Wang Xiaojian, who will always hold her hands tightly no matter how much sadness the world has sent to her.

work hard

Today I want to talk something about hardworking.
Nowadays, the competition in the society is very drastic and every day we may be faced with all kinds of challenges from work, study or even in life. Our daily life is just like a race competition . If we don't catch up with others and defeat the opponents,we will lose the whole game.
Although, there are some people whole have superiority in intelligence, appearance or background since they were born,we should not complain about this or even just give up.Instead,we should work harder to catch up with them. Many famous men in the history did not have good back ground ,like Edison,Abrahan Lincoln,or did not have good intelligence  like zhangpu(a famous Chinese writer),tongdizhou(a biologist) .However, eventually, they all became famous because they worked hard and never gave up.
Also ,I can see many students who work quite hard.In RV Hostel, the  study room is always full of people and some students may study deep into midnight. And there are always some people reading books in the bus or MRT.
The world is just like a food chain and only the hard-working person can climb to the top of the chain. So,from today on,work harder to realise your dreams.

Childhood

Childhood
These days, I have always been thinking that how good it would be if I were still a child. But I know now I am not and I will never again be a child.
Things are really different. When I was a child, I was always dreaming to be an adult. What a cool thing it was at that time in my mind to be an adult. Then I could be the boss of a group of children. They would all obey my orders then, since I would be the tallest, strongest one there and no one of them would be able or dare to beat me. However I could easily beat them down, Ha-ha. When I was not willing to walk to buy something, I could ask them to buy. When I was in a bad mood, I could play games with them and I would always be the winner because at that time even the rules of the games would be made by me and I could easily change the rules and none of them would even dare to complain. How good it would be! Ha-ha.
However, now I can say that I am an adult. But I have never experienced such happiness I dreamed about when I was a child. Now, I don’t play with children any more. And even if you let me play with children, I think I will be the one to obey their orders because when they cry loudly for their mothers saying that I bullied them, I think I will be in big trouble. On the other hand, I think now I am less happy than I was a child. When I was a child, I needn’t to think about so many things that now I should consider carefully and I could do anything I wanted, because any faults made by a child could easily be forgiven by just saying that I was a child, together with a pair of innocent eyes of a child. But now, if I did something wrong I could never say that I am a child and then look at the person I have offended with my innocent eyes, because if I did so, I think I would be beat more severely.
Now I really understand why there are so many writers in China writing articles in memory of their childhood and feel repentant for not having cherished their precious childhoods. And so am I.
I am also really puzzled why people don’t cherish a thing until they have lost it.

My Dream Life

If possible, I hope that one day I have a chance that I live alone on an island for several years. The island must have blue sky, and I live in a wood house which is surrounded by trees. I have a small garden that is full of flowers and vegetables. I will spend most of my time on books and thinking. Of course, I won’t have a computer or a cell phone. I will enjoy quiet and simple life for some time.

If possible, I hope that my Mr. Right is a kind person. He may be not handsome, he may be not rich, but he is very happy to help others. He’d better know a lot about arts and literature; therefore, I can talk about my favorite topics with him. He should be kind to my parents and friends, and couldn’t get angry easily when he sees my male friends.

If possible, I hope that when I find my dream mate, I could travel all over the world with him. We may travel to Paris to appreciate the mysterious smile of Mona Lisa; we may travel to Provence to see the purple ocean; we may travel to Holland to watch the beauty of tulips.

If possible, I hope I can live a different life, because I am a person who like to adventure.

Learning from experience

“ Experience is the best teacher” is an old saying, and I definitely agree with it. The most important, and sometimes the hardest, lessons we learn in life come from our participation in situations.
Some people say that we can learn everything from book. Of course, learning from books in a formal educational setting is also valuable. It is in schools that we learn the information we need to function in our society. We learn how to speak and write and understand mathematical equations. This is the information that we need to live in our communities and earn a living.
Nevertheless, I think that the most important lessons can’t be taught; they have to be experienced. No one can teach us how to get along with others or how to have self-respect. As we grow from children into teenagers, no one can teach us how to deal with peer pressure.
This shouldn’t stop us from looking for guidelines along the way. Teachers and parents are valuable sources of advice when we’re young. As we enter into new stages in our lives, the advice we receive from them is very helpful because they have already had similar experience. But experiencing our own victories and disasters is really the way to learn how to deal with our own life.

What do I really want to do?

What do I really want to do?

When I was a little boy about 7 years old, I was so fascinated with astronomy and dinosaur fossils that time. I was eager to read anything I could find about them. These giant creatures and mystery space gave me a lot of dreams about them. Each time my mom asked me :' What do you want to do in your future?' with a smile on her face, my answer was always :'I want to be an archaeologist! I want to find more dinosaur fossils, or to be an astronomer is also a good choice!' What my mother would do was just to keep smiling.

As I was older, more pressure from academic work came in my life. I no longer thought about dream. What I was thinking all the time was how to be the top students because I thought no matter how beautiful my dream was, without hard work, it wouldn't come true. Physics and chemistry were the favourite subjects that time. I was so interested in them that I spent a lot of my spare time in the labs with my classmates who had the same interests with me. I thought being a scientist in the area of physics or chemistry may be a more practical future than being an archaeologist.

When it came to the university, I began to be forced to watch this real world with my own eyes and I also realized the responsibility for my parents. Another thing which was full of the world nowadays, money, became a thing that I must consider about. Every time I thought about my future, the first word came into my mind was always 'practical', until someday I realized I had lost my dreams. My future in my mind turned into a mess and I was becoming an ordinary which I had refused to be in the past.

What do I really want to do? I still keep asking myself this question today.

Human Rights

Many foreign countries said China didn't do a good job on human rights. Some people in China believe that it is because these countries feel the threat from China's development and want to slow it down. Therefore, these foreigners support some anti-China comments and undermine the country's image. At the same time, some people think China's society is black, power and money make it unfair ,and there are many restrictions like the access to some foreign websites.
There are some problems like the lack of the right to vote, but our national conditions don't allow it now. In my opinion, our party and government have settled many problems in our life to respect human rights and keeping perfecting the system like amending and adding laws.We are in preliminary stage of socialism and we are keeping moving.
Some foreign countries misunderstood the condition of human right of China. Before last Human Rights Day, U.S. Secretary of State Clinton mentioned the case of Liu Xiaobo, who was awarded of Nobel Peace Prize after being sent into prison in China. He said a lot of words bad for the Communist Party on the Internet, which harmed the stability of society a lot. They said it is the criminalization of free speech. In fact, almost in each country's law and the relevant international conventions, there are regulations of the crime in form of words. And the sentences of sedition are not rare in western countries. When it comes to China, some westerners are too extreme because of a lack of information. So don't be confused by these press of one-sided views.
In addition, every country has its unique problems. The American will give the human-right report every year. In these reports, nearly every countries are reported to have these or those problems of human right except the America.Actually, America itself also has realities like racial discrimination, abuse to prisoners, poverty, sovereignty infringement among other problems. Therefore, we have no need to be disappointed to any of the country because we are making progress.
I didn't deny the problems in China and I have no intention to offend any countries.Maybe some of my words are not completely right. But one thing is true, that is, human right is a tough task for all the human beings and we should be confident of the future.

Reflections on the movie

Pay it forward, like its literal meaning, signifies that doing good deeds to others initially. Though many of us haven’t been aware of its happening, I can assure you that most of us have truly received those sorts of kindness. In reality, I have received it just this evening.

Have you ever been sent a message which contains all kinds of blessing words and at the end request you send it again to any other ten people? Actually all these actions belong to Pay it forward. Doing goods to others doesn’t imply that you need to save the world or change a person’s life, a thoughtful word or a simple smile is adequate.

But in the movie, Trevor had attained his goal to change the world. He successfully changed three other people’s lives first. Subsequently, those three people pass down this kindness which finally shaped the first scene that the journalist got a jaguar.

It is a moving story, nevertheless, the majority of critics thought that the plot was too idealistic. Most of people are not likely to change easily for they always conform to their habitual mannerism and make a difference will drag them out of their comfortable zone. Besides, even if they take up the suggestion, they may not carry on this helping three people movement. For instance, let me ask you how many blessing messages like above have you received? Did you pass it down? Some may say yes and some may say no. A simple blessing cannot be passed on, let alone other seemingly harder kind actions.

At the beginning, I shared the same opinion with these so called movie critics. The movie is not practical. Then I perceived that there is no sense that I should believe them other than the movie. They haven’t try, so how could them testify its impossibility? Maybe it can be successful. Maybe it can change the world. When Lincoln was born, nobody believed that he would be America’s 16th president. But he finally made it and proceeded well. A great man is a person who wouldn’t be stopped by common sense or practical perception. He just does it. As for the consequence is good or bad, I want to cite an old Chinese saying” Human come up the scheme, god accomplishes it.”

the creative ability

Although Chinese is regarded as an intelligent nation, it can be seen that there are seldom Chinese people who make a very high achievement in the fields of science and technology. It is a pity that there are no people with a Chinese nationality who got a Nobel Prize in science. The most difficult math or physics problems are usually solved by German, American, etc. However, in the international competition, it is usually the Chinese students who got the first prize, which is a quite interesting phenomenon deserved to be pondered. In my viewpoint, there are several reasons that lead to the present situation.

To begin with, the motivation of studying the scientific competition for most Chinese students is too materialistic. They choose to participate in the competition not because of their enthusiasm in academic. The competition is only a stepping stone for them to access to a top university. After they achieve their goals and enter the ideal university, they usually do not want to make a further study in the academic any more. Take one of my classmates in high school as an example: he got the first prize in the physics competition in Asia, which is great affirmation of academic for him. However, what surprised me was that he choose a major in economic in Peking University instead of physics. I once asked him why he made this decision. He told me that continuing to study physics was quite boring for him and what he wanted to do next is just finish their study and find a high salary job after graduation.

Beyond this, another reason is the Chinese education system. There is no denying that Chinese students usually have a talent in mathematics over other students. I think it is just the intense training during the 12 years studying that contributes to the talents. They have mastered all the methods that the teacher taught them in class and they do quantities of exercise every day. Students are familiar with the questions appeared on the exam paper. So the questions are only a piece of cake for most Chinese students which maybe seem quite hard for some foreign students. In the school life of Chinese students, they keep repeating dong these questions again and again. As a result, most students’ ability of creativity is neglected. Their creative mind is much weaker than foreign students.

The Chinese education system still leaves something to be desired. The present situation is not easy to change. But at least, the awareness of developing creativity should be drawn attention. As for parents, they should focus on nurture the ability of creativity from childhood. For the government, some of the western education system should be introduced.

My reflection on the film

Last
week, we watched a film called pay it forward, which deeply impressed me. The
idea, pay it forward, is quite brilliant for people to spread their kindness. However,
what I want to talk about is the form of their education. I was surprised when
the little boy brought the poor man to his home and told his mother that it was
his homework. I can’t stop wandering what would I do if I was asked to do this
homework: What you can do to change the world. I may just think about it and
write an article, which must be the end of the homework. Probability I would
never think about it any longer, let along apply it into practice. In contrast,
Trevor did. He tried his best to make it into reality. He thought he failed to
change the three people, but I think he succeeded. Although the poor man didn’t
stop taking drugs, he kept the kindness in mind and wanted to help others,
which was the most important thing to spread the kindness. In addition, the way
Mr.Simonet taught students was amazing. In our country, our teachers put the
emphasis on how to write a good essay and how to analysis good articles rather
than how to analysis an idea and apply it into reality. He just let students
think about whatever they want and helped them make it more practical. Which method
is more valuable? I believe everyone must have an opinion.

Human Rights

Human Rights

Today, we have talked about the human rights, as far as i am concerned, human rights are very important, we need to protect it.

My reasons are as follows.

On one hand, if the rights of human are violated , they will be very angry and may lose their patience, even worth, they may protest. As a result of it, the government may break down. Then, it may cause the turmoil of the world, which is a very serious problem. On the other hand, if we try to protect the rights of human, they will be satisfied, so, they will do everything to make the society be in harmony. For example, they will support the proposal proposed by the government. What's more, protecting the human rights can lead to the quicker development of economy. If the discrimination are forbidden, that is to say, the rights of some people who can not experience the same rights with someone else are protected, the leader can have more opportunities to hire the much more competent persons to let their companies develop faster, which will finally accelerate the pace of the development of the world's economy; If the rights of the labors are protected, which, to some extent, means they can earn more if they work harder, they will have the motivation to word. Then the economy of the world will develop much more quickly.

In brief, human rights are really significant.

Reflections on the moive

We watched a movie"Pay it forward" on this Thursday. The story is very simple: Simon Eugene is a sociology teacher who is good at organising his life. Arlene Mckechnie is a single mother. In order to raise her son Terry, she tries her best to work day and night, and alcohol is her only" hobby".All these changed on that day when Eugene gave all his students a special homework: to make the world more beautiful. Terry determined to do something by himself, because he believed that if he did good things for others, he would gain good things as return. He wanted to help three people and told them to help other three people and love will deliver by this way. So he invited the homeless tramps to his house... Under Terry's influence, people gradually tended to agree Terry's idea from the first suspicion. Everyone was surprised to find that when they showed kindness to others they are in love at the same time, and the world can really become more beautiful.
Although I don't like the outcome of this movie, although there are no handsome or beautiful actors, I still think it is a wonderful movie, because I can learn many things from this story which make me think my life deeply. Everyone can do something even a little to change our world, and we can realize our values through this way. Perhaps our world will really change by what we do.
At last, I will never forget the main tag line of this movie: when someone does you a big favor, don't pay it back...pay it forward!

On stereotypes

Last week we discussed the influence and reasons of stereotypes which left me with some reflections I'd like to share with you.
To begin with,in my opinion the formation of logos or brands is a product of stereotypes--fixed habits. When we mention luxury we think of LV;when we mention sports we think of Nike;when we mention digital products we think of Apple. In the world we are living in,logo means almost everything;even primary school students pursue the impact of logo.In order to show one's proficiency, taste and social status,he probably needs to consume specific logos,no matter whether the quality is the best or not.On the part of companies, being acknowledged by the consumers assures them great profits;that's why many companies are willing to spend more on ads rather than quality check. So,too many times, some newly established companies that attempt to join in the competition, ambigiously desiring to be the next No.1,are killed by the stereotypes of consumers;even their products are of better qualities and lower price.Actually,in some consumers hearts they have developed a pattern of mindset that they don't believe new brands and they are more willing to spend more money on the brands they have been used to.Frankly speaking, most Chinese hold the opinion luxury must be produced by Western countries, that's why China's domestic luxury industry is as blank as a sheet. For the logo companies, globalization means bigger market to dominate, however,as for me globalization should be no logo for diverse products presenting every innovation despite the stereotypical thinkings.
Moreover, stereotypes  have something to do with we human beings as well.To illustrate,I'd like to cite the example of NBA rising star Jeremy Lin.In the popular mind, this stereotype goes,Asian Americans are quiet, studious and really good at maths.By scoring 20 or more points in each of his first six NBA starts, including 38 agianst Kobe Bryant and the Lakers,Lin supposedly dealt a decisive blow against an insidious ethnic caricature.Absolutely,Lin is a good model to follow, when it comes to smashing the stereotypes of some people.Excellence should not be limited to anything, let alone those stereotypes.
In conclusion,as the world is becoming flatter,it is a wiser choice for us to update our information all the times and develop an objective mindset, which will be beneficial for all of us.

truth or not

Last Wednesday, our group had a discussion on what you would do when seeing your friend enter a lap dancing club. After discussing, Baoyu asked us a question, if you were the wife, would you want your husband's friends to tell you what they saw? And my answer is no.
I have thought about this question these days. We,human beings, should really chase all the truths? What if someone told me that my husband entered a lap dancing club? Would I just easily have a quarrel with him and that's the end? Obviously,no.First, I would feel embarrassed and I am quite sure that all the people facing this kind of situation will feel uncomfortable when others tell you this thing directly. And second, why I want others to tell me? Because I want to find the truth? Then, the worst result will be a divorce and all of us will be in deep depressed .And if we had children, they will be affected too.Just a truth will make at least 3 people's life change from then on. Who wants to get that finality? As a result, I think sometimes, when we want to get the truth, we should know the significance of doing it.
When you suspect that your friends betrayed you, but you do not have any evidence,I think I will just let it pass, I do not want to think it for a long time to find the solutions or find the evidence to talk to my friends and then say goodbye to them. Everyone has his own treasure. Sometimes, looking for the truth will make us lose our treasure. Do you still feel that it is worth doing that? I love my friends, so I will trust them. I will never want to find things which will show that they forsake me. There is a maxim saying "Where ignorance is bliss, ti's folly to be wise". If I get the result,I will also be in great sorrow. Yes, sometimes, on the way to the truth, you will not only harm yourself, but also other people you love for you ask them and they will feel you don't trust them. As a result, I do not want to know any truth in the emotional field which will hurt me. You know, the more you love the person, when you know he hurt you, you will be more sad.
However, I don't mean that we should not find the truth in every field. We still should keep a rational mind in some domain like science and many other things which don't need our emotion. We should ask for the truth without doubt. But when referring to the emotion, my personal view is that we'd better say no to the truth which may hurt us.

Gender Role in Japan

We talked about Japanese women in class last week. I wondered why Japanese women have such a low social position. After learning some Japanese histories and cultures, I seem to know the answer.
Gender had been an important principle of deciding social position in Japanese history. In the twelfth century, women in Japan could inherit property in their own names and manage it by themselves. However, under feudal government, the status of women declined later. Even though peasant women still continued to have freedom of movement and decision-making power, upper class women’s lives were subject to their father or husband. This kind of thought was supported by the government as part of its efforts at social control. With early industrialization, young women participated in factory work under unhealthy working conditions without gaining personal autonomy. In the Meiji period, the development of industrialization and urbanization reduce the authority of fathers and husbands, but at the same time, the Meiji Civil Code denied women legal rights.
After World War II, the legal position of women was redefined. Individual rights were given precedence over obligation to family. Women as well as men were given the right to choose spouses and occupations, to inherit and own property in their own names.
Although Japanese society has changed a lot, the histories and cultures are still influencing Japanese people in their deep heart.

Pay it forward

pay it forward

As our first movie, pay it forward, I’d like to say, is really worth watching.
Apart from the main point proposed from the film that we should be nice to others, some brilliant tag lines put forward by the characters in the film which include “you can change the world”, “everyone makes mistakes”, “we should not afraid to change ourselves” and so on are also very educational.
Eleven-year-old boy Trevor, when having his first social class, meets one formidable question asked by his teacher that what he can do to change the world. After thinking over this question, Trevor comes up with an idea which is just the theme of the film, “pay it forward”.
His plan runs like this: at first he will try his best to help three people to do something that they can’t do. Then what he will do is not ask them to pay it back but pay it forward to another three people, which means he will ask these three people to carry on his kindness to help another three people, and through this way, Trevor can radiate his kindness from one point to many other people, at last to change the world.
Doubtlessly this is a really brilliant idea. And through Trevor’s effort, eventually he manages to achieve his goal. However, the film really has a tragic ending that because of some bad students’ bullying another student in the school, Trevor goes to help but accidently being killed by one of the bad student with his knife.
After having watched this film, what impresses me most is the last scene of the film that around Trevor’s house, many people spontaneously come to prayer vigil for little Trevor and in the distance comes more cars. I think this scene is really moving. Although Trevor is dead, he will always be remembered and his kindness has really being carried on by others.
To conclude, after having watched this film, I have really learned many things and I hope we can have more chances to watch films.
