Last week we discussed the influence and reasons of stereotypes which left me with some reflections I'd like to share with you.
To begin with,in my opinion the formation of logos or brands is a product of stereotypes--fixed habits. When we mention luxury we think of LV;when we mention sports we think of Nike;when we mention digital products we think of Apple. In the world we are living in,logo means almost everything;even primary school students pursue the impact of logo.In order to show one's proficiency, taste and social status,he probably needs to consume specific logos,no matter whether the quality is the best or not.On the part of companies, being acknowledged by the consumers assures them great profits;that's why many companies are willing to spend more on ads rather than quality check. So,too many times, some newly established companies that attempt to join in the competition, ambigiously desiring to be the next No.1,are killed by the stereotypes of consumers;even their products are of better qualities and lower price.Actually,in some consumers hearts they have developed a pattern of mindset that they don't believe new brands and they are more willing to spend more money on the brands they have been used to.Frankly speaking, most Chinese hold the opinion luxury must be produced by Western countries, that's why China's domestic luxury industry is as blank as a sheet. For the logo companies, globalization means bigger market to dominate, however,as for me globalization should be no logo for diverse products presenting every innovation despite the stereotypical thinkings.
Moreover, stereotypes have something to do with we human beings as well.To illustrate,I'd like to cite the example of NBA rising star Jeremy Lin.In the popular mind, this stereotype goes,Asian Americans are quiet, studious and really good at maths.By scoring 20 or more points in each of his first six NBA starts, including 38 agianst Kobe Bryant and the Lakers,Lin supposedly dealt a decisive blow against an insidious ethnic caricature.Absolutely,Lin is a good model to follow, when it comes to smashing the stereotypes of some people.Excellence should not be limited to anything, let alone those stereotypes.
In conclusion,as the world is becoming flatter,it is a wiser choice for us to update our information all the times and develop an objective mindset, which will be beneficial for all of us.
I can't agree with you any more.Nowadays, many people are being blind by the stereotype. I hope everyone can make a wise choise no matter what others think about~
ReplyDeleteI'm very glad that you appreciate my point of view~~HOHO
DeleteYou are right, life is full of choice, what matters most is to make the right choice without bias and never regret!:-D
To my way of thinking, why the stereotype exists is because most of the people choose it and believe it can bring them enough benifits. Follow the stereotyoe, you will just be another people of the hundred billions. Break the stereotype, you can be the winner or the looser. Actually, the posibility of the second one is much bigger than the first one. The choices can never be defined as good or bad, instead, the only difference between is suitable or not.
ReplyDeleteHaha, your comment on choice is really insightful.Frankly speaking,it's really hard sometimes for me to make a choice disobey the fixed pattern. But,why there is more possibility to be the loser? To my point of view,if you go to the path ignored by others, there's bigger possibility for you to meet better view, isn't it?
Deletei feel ashamed that it is too hard for me to understand, but all in all, i can know the main idea. for my part, it is not because of the stereotype that i will choose the well-known brand, it is because of the quality. if someone tell me that the quality of this new brand product is really good, i will buy this product without hesitation, and i think a lot of people in the world will take the same actions like me
ReplyDeleteDon't say like that,I think you did a good job on your blog!Well, there is possibility for us to follow our friends' suggestion to try new brand, but set yourself in some situations:if you are a director of a company, will you be that easy to choose a new brand clothes when you are going to attend to a conference?will you prefer some less known electric products which have the same function as i-touch??I think logo has a lot to do with everything.
DeleteBut, i think the reason for me not to choose the new brand is that i really do not know the quality of the product rather than be stereotyped little sister haha
DeleteWell, haha,I just talk about my opinion about the phenomenon,it's good to see different of views which can make me reflect deeper.
DeleteIt is true that nowadays people are always enthusiastic about the luxury without considering whether it really worth the price. It seems that the more expensive the commodity is, the higher quality it will be. No wonder so many people are purchasing the Apple series products. In fact, in my opinion, there is actually no need to chase famous brand blindly. What really matters is whether it fits you or not. Remember your taste can never be shown only through the band you choose.
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad that you appreciated my ideas on it.You got what I meant that nowadays there's a growing trend or already grown trend for people to chase after famous logos, are they really worth that?Maybe~~I like your sentence that we should choose what fits us best,in that way we will enjoy more diversity instead some common but famous logos..
