My views towards Chinese's pursuing luxuries

This Wednesday I had my oral presentation in which I constructed cultural differences between China and western countries basing on the way how people choose brands and goods. I believe that westerners prefer luxury brands while most Chinese will choose china’s time- honored brands when considering their good reputations. However, no one can deny that more and more Chinese are paying their attention to luxury brands like LV or Chanel. Towards this phenomenon, I want share with you some of my personal views. In fact, I do think it’s alright that people pursue luxuries, because to some extent, luxury brands can guarantee good qualities. If you have enough money, why don’t you just enjoy your life? However, facts are that some young people who even can not earn enough money for life also want to follow the trend which I think is irrational. They blindly follow and unrealistically compare with others regarding wearing and using luxuries a way to show good taste. As for as I am concerned, possessing luxuries should always be a choice to satisfy life for those who can afford it but not a way to show wealth and status. To sum up, we should always remain sane instead of being crazy about luxuries.

  1. I think you opinion is special but very good. Sometimes using money instead of saving it in the bank is a stimulus for you to earn more money.I agree with you.

  4. I agree with you. Vanity sometimes is the source of greedy. Besides, if we have the money to buy a luxury, we could buy a great deal of gourmet food which would be good to both our heart and our health.

  5. i do agree with you. i really think the trend to puesue the luxuries is very worrying. And the most important reason for the young people to buy luxuries is to satisfy their vanity rather than to buy the good quality. what should we do. 87 de ronger

  6. Indeed, one's consumption level should be a true reflection of one's income level. Just stand at where you should stand. And I also believe that one's demand is finite. Once you have satisfied your demand, you should think of contributing to the society, instead of making your life even more luxurious.

  7. I agree with you. Sometimes pursuing luxury actually is a way to improve and enjoy the quality of life as long as you have adequate money. For us students, it is still not appropriate to purchase these luxury items. But if I have the ability someday, maybe I will consider to buy these for my parents~~~

  8. I guess as you've all pointed out, there's nothing to prevent a person from buying luxury items if they can afford to. However, there are people who feel that they need to own such items to keep up with other people, even when they can't afford to. And then, some chalk up credit card bills that they later have difficulty paying off. Most times, many of us buy more than we need . . .
