What do I really want to do?

What do I really want to do?

When I was a little boy about 7 years old, I was so fascinated with astronomy and dinosaur fossils that time. I was eager to read anything I could find about them. These giant creatures and mystery space gave me a lot of dreams about them. Each time my mom asked me :' What do you want to do in your future?' with a smile on her face, my answer was always :'I want to be an archaeologist! I want to find more dinosaur fossils, or to be an astronomer is also a good choice!' What my mother would do was just to keep smiling.

As I was older, more pressure from academic work came in my life. I no longer thought about dream. What I was thinking all the time was how to be the top students because I thought no matter how beautiful my dream was, without hard work, it wouldn't come true. Physics and chemistry were the favourite subjects that time. I was so interested in them that I spent a lot of my spare time in the labs with my classmates who had the same interests with me. I thought being a scientist in the area of physics or chemistry may be a more practical future than being an archaeologist.

When it came to the university, I began to be forced to watch this real world with my own eyes and I also realized the responsibility for my parents. Another thing which was full of the world nowadays, money, became a thing that I must consider about. Every time I thought about my future, the first word came into my mind was always 'practical', until someday I realized I had lost my dreams. My future in my mind turned into a mess and I was becoming an ordinary which I had refused to be in the past.

What do I really want to do? I still keep asking myself this question today.

  1. haha,a very realist growing up change.Frankly speaking,I went through it or am going through it as well. All in all,I think what matters most is to follow your heart and develop your interest in the right way lead to money...hehe

  2. we all have our own dreams. just as i said in my oral report, i think dream has a huge power, it can make us brave to go along our life. you may think i am naive, but what i want to say, sometimes, be naive is not a bad idea. it can make us chase what we want more bravely. just as you said, when you are young, and when we are all young, our dream is strong, it is a dream when we talk to others we can feel proud. but when we grow up, we find that dream become abstract, it is something that we can not easily talk to others. Dreams are killed by ourselves, because we are afraid of too many things. but we only have a whole life. so do you want to be regret? you should know, no matter what decision you make, someone will always accompany with you. Have the courage to chase your dream.make your life meaningful.

  3. I am sure everyone had their own dreams at their childhood. But how many of us truly realized our dreams before? On the road of growth, we all have changed in a lot both physically and mentally. Maybe this is the so called mature. What we should do is to figure out what we believe in and love in our life and have a clear version of our future. Just do it~go after your dream!!

  4. your article reminds me of my dream when i was a child. at that time what i wanted to do was just to be a scientist who could make robots. i have always kept this dream in my mind, and after the entrance examination, when i was choosing my major and my university, because of my dream, i chose my major of mechanical engineering just hoping one day i can realize my dream. and now i think it is not so late, you can still choose the major you like in NUS, and you can still be the one you like to be.

  5. Just like the old saying goes"Know yourself."I think we should listen to the voice of ur heart and make the proper choice that we want instead of following others unquestioningly.
