Treasure Your Love

Yesterday we talked about poetry in class. The tutor introduced us several famous poems, which reminded me of a poem I read before. The name of the poem is Down by the Sally Gardens that was written by William Butler Yeats. This poem describes a young man felt regretful to lose his lover because of being youth and foolish.
I think most people will miss their first love. It may be not only because it happened when people are still in a naive age, but also since it did not have an ending. People always want things they do not have, so the loss of their first love makes feel uncomfortable. In the other hand, most first love breaks down because people are still young and cannot understand others well. Therefore, they may quarrel about tiny things and have to break up at last. When they look back at an older age, they may realize that they will still get on well if they consider the problem from the other side, which makes them regretful. Just like the poem says, “But I was young and foolish, and now I am full of tears”.
There is another sentence, “She bid me take love easy, as the leaves grow on the tree”, that makes me think a lot. Because of youth, some people pay too much attention to the love that it has influenced their daily life. In addition, they may mind little things when they are with another. It may give the other person high pressure and make him feel tired. So please take love easy, and give the other one some private space.
In conclusion, when you are in love, please trust and be kind to each other, then you will not lose your true love. At last, I want to share this poem with you, and I also suggest you find the song whose lyric is this poem.
Down By the Sally Gardens
By William Butler Yeats

Down by the sally gardens my love and I did meet
She passed the sally gardens with little snow-white feet
She did me take love easy, as the leaves grow on the tree
But I, being young and foolish, with her would not agree

In a filed by the river my love and I did stand
And on my leaning shoulder she laid her snows-white hand
She bid me take life easy, as the grass grows on the weirs
But I was young and foolish, and now I am full of tears

  1. I think this poem is very beautiful. It makes me think something. I think in love, we all have to understand others better and learn to forgive others. And I just found that in our daily life, even some small things will make people disagree with each other and quarrel with each other.Love forces us to know others advantages better.

  2. Youth is the most beautiful period of life. We may be foolish, naive or even crazy. No matter what the outcome is, first love always tastes sweet and warm. As you said in the blog, just treasure the present, treasure the love and people in front of us!!
