Recently, I lost my second newly-bought water bottle. How sad and desperate I am! I question myself how can I be that careless. Actually, the loss itself is not a big deal but the carelessness and slips I often make that truly matters. Although I think I have taken good care with the bottle, the loss seemed to be inevitable. The event reminded me of Murphey's Law which goes like: "Anything that can go wrong will go wrong". In other words, no matter how careful I was, if there's 0.000000001% possibility for the loss, then my care seems worthless.
Actually, the event triggers me to reflect deeply on the Law. To begin with, according to Murphey, if an event has some negative effect or tendency, there is always a tendency for the item to develop towards the worst result and end in biggest loss. Though the law sounds pessimistic, as for a student to learn engineering or computing, there is no bad for me to keep in mind all the time about the possible failure. Only in this way, can I stimulate myself to always pursue the best and never to be satisfied with what I have already achieved. And remember to pay attention to every subtle detail.
In addition, the Law also reminds me that nothing is as simple as how it shows on the superficial layer. When the event seems like process smoothly into one direction, we'd better keep an eye on the opposite negative aspect. Gradually, it will be of great benefits to develop the habit of opposite thinking method, which will help use to consider a broader spectrum. As a result, we can finish the work efficiently and perfectly.
Generalized, from my experience of losing my water bottle, I reflect a lot and harvest a lot. The loss of the water bottle seems worthwhile. So, next time when we do something, to be optimistic is right but it is also beneficial to consider the worst result.
Thank you for the suggestion. I think i will try to think deeper and wider. At the same time, remain optimistic. hahaha
ReplyDeletehaha~Yes, you are right that we should keep a wary eye on the things happening around as well as an optimistic attitude!~Thank you today or I would lose my third water bottle~
ReplyDeleteDon't worry too much about the water bottle, Wang Zi, although it did help you think of Murphy's Law. At times we all forget things in life but the question is what is more important to remember in your life? We need to prioritise, otherwise our heads will be full of mush! So did you buy a new one?
ReplyDeleteI think our thought may affect the development of things happening subcontiously. The more we worry about it will going wrong, there are more chances that this will happen.
